PASSING THE BATON OF TRUTH.
It was at the 1924 Olympic Games that Eric Liddell was handed a crumpled piece of
note paper containing the words "for them that honour me, I will honour."
Much controvercy had centred around the 100 metre final because Eric had refused to run
the race which was scheduled to be run on a Sunday. Instead, Eric now needed to prepare
for the 400 metre race which was not his speciality. As an athlete, Eric had trained hard,
but now he was armed with this precious note that encouraged his faith and his stand for Christ.
The baton of truth had been passed onto him. That day Eric won the gold medal and achieved a world record
time for the 400 metre race. More importantly, his goal to serve as a missionary in China now drew closer.
The book of Hebrews chapter 12 reminds us, "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a
great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily
entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us."
All of us have running lanes that God has marked out for our lives and we are encouraged to run in these lanes
with perseverance. Sometimes the race is difficult but the more we train, and with our perseverance
resting on God, the race we are called to run becomes more achievable.
As the runners pass the baton of the Olympic torch to one another this year, the Olympic flame in Beijing
comes closer to being lit. There in the stadium when the Olympic torch is lit, a beacon of light will be seen
by many throughout the world.
However,today, in many places throughout China, there is a light already burning. It burns so brightly that no
Olympic flame can match its glow.
It is the light of the Gospel burning in the hearts of the thousands of believers in the 'underground church'.
This flame is their passion to love Christ, a flame that cannot be extinguished.
It is testimonies such as these that witness to lives that are running the race with perseverance.
We are inspired by their example and honoured to run with them and pass the baton of truth to those who will follow.

again flew out to Johannesburg as a member of the Challenge
newspaper's "Impact Africa' team. Also, this year, he

members of the church). All enjoyed the experience, I expect
to be able to cover more 'Impact Africa' stories in coming

MAGAZINE
We call this 'page' our 'MAGAZINE'. This month Our articles and

Tony Belton and his wife Marje are members of Rockingham Church
of Christ. Tony tells the story of how one Sunday evening Marje
and himself were at church when both felt Jesus' hand touching
them on their shoulders without realising the other was
simultaneously experiencing the same phenomena. That very
evening both experienced conversion, trusting Jesus for
salvation.
Also, this month we include an article for boys
and girls; a recipe for 'Mediterranean Vegetable Bake'; an
article for computer buffs; and various scripture thoughts.
